Technolas 217 Excimer laser

Bausch & Lomb's Z100 is the world's leading excimer laser. It's innovative "flying spot" technology produces an extremely smooth corneal surface. Unlike standard lasers, the B&L Z100 uses a state of the art feedback mechanism that makes sure every pulse is placed exactly as prescribed. The Bausch & Lomb Z100 laser is a 7th generation, flying spot laser with an eye tracker that is capable of treating the entire cornea. With the Z100 the profile of the laser beam is a modified

What is a "flying spot" laser?

An excimer laser is an extremely precise computerized instrument that uses invisible ultra-violet light to perform corneal surgery. The cool light produces virtually no damage to the surrounding tissue, increasing its safety. Each pulse of the laser removes only a minute amount of corneal tissue - about 1/500th of the thickness of a human hair.

Larger Treatment Zone

Many lasers only treat an area of 6-8mm with narrow smoothing of the edges. This can result in night vision difficulties if the patient is under low light conditions, as the pupil can grow to twice as much as its normal size. Thus, the pupil can enlarge beyond the treatment zone resulting in glare and a "halo" effect.

The Bausch & Lomb laser eliminates this problem by offering the widest treatment zone available for treatment. In addition, the laser creates a blend zone that allows the doctor to smooth the corrected area into the rest of the cornea, maintaining a spherical shape.

FDA Clinical trial Results

*U.S. FDA clinical studies results show that, following Lasik surgery using the Bausch & Lomb 217 laser, 99.7% of patients see 20/40 or better without glasses or contacts. 20/40 is the legal requirement for being able to drive without correction. Results also included that 87.3% of patients see 20/20 or better without glasses or contacts and that over 90% of patients treated do not experience any night vision disturbances.
